I was really excited to participate in this year's YA Superlative Blogfest until I scanned my Goodreads 'read' shelf. I've only read 18 YA books published this year but most of them wouldn't make my end of year favourite's list. I read some great books but they were either published a few years ago (especially as I tried to catch up with everyone's recommendations from last year!) or they were adult (I can't stress enough how much I loved The Rosie Project and The Rosie Effect). Still, I'll try and give it a go but just know I'm kind of clutching at straws!
I didn't really enjoy this as much as The 5th Wave - I think it ran out of steam and what happened to strong, independent Cassie? - but I loved Ringer's storyline.
FAVOURITE CONTEMPORARY Flat-Out Celeste by Jessica Park
Probably one of my favourite books of the year actually. I just love Celeste and all the other characters and the world Jessica Park has created. I hope there's another in the series (well there better be given what happened at the end!)
FAVOURITE COMEDY Biggest Flirts by Jennifer Echols
A fun rom-com. Great setting (I will always love a book set in Florida) and I loved the high school marching band drama. I need to get the next one because I liked those characters even better.
So cute! Such a pleasant surprise. Again, I loved the setting and the adventure and the growth of the characters.
FAVOURITE PARANORMAL Ashes to Ashes by Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian
Even though this felt like a bit of a let down, I still had to include it because the series overall is very good. Also, there's an epilogue/'where are they now' type ending, which is always a winner for me.
Wish You Were Italian is SO cute! I love that book!
ReplyDeleteIt was such a pleasant surprise - really enjoyed it!
DeleteI MUST get my hands on Wish You Were Italian! I've heard so many good things!
ReplyDeleteGreat picks! Can't wait to see tomorrows!
Thank you! Yes, I thought it was really sweet and full of heart. Even though it's a summery novel, I think it could work during the holidays too because it's just too cute!
DeleteOh, ASHES TO ASHES. I loved it up until the last 30 or so pages. Reeve is one of my biggest book crushes EVER and his conclusion. Just... all the heartbreak. :-( Such an excellent trilogy overall, though! Thanks so much for joining us for the blogfest, Sophia. Can't wait to see your picks for tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteYes it's a fantastic trilogy. It's not my usual type of story but I found the first one by chance and got hooked! I'm glad they all came out relatively quickly too, which is always a good thing - we never had to wait longer than a year for the next, did we?
DeleteI still need to read THE INFINITE SEA. It's on my Christmas list, and I'm really hoping it shows up under the tree. You have me super intrigued by your comments about FLAT-OUT CELESTE. I've read the other two, but not that one, so I think I need to check it out. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Infinite Sea...well I had some issues with it but I think the second book in a series is often troublesome. If you liked the other two you'll LOVE Flat-Out Celeste - it has everything and more! I could wax lyrical about it all day so I'll just stop now.
DeleteI didn't love The Infinite Sea as much, either - I think Ringer's storyline is what saved it for me. Also, a book involving high school marching band? It sounds like I need to read Biggest Flirts!
